The Council of Ministers will convene tomorrow, August 12, in Lenakel, Tanna marking the first time such a meeting is held on the island.
The announcement came just before Prime Minister Hon. Jotham Napat officially opened the National Arts and Pacific Music Vibes program at the ash plains near Mount Yasur Volcano.
During his speech, the Prime Minister noted that traditional governance systems in Vanuatu are gradually disappearing and stressed the importance of working closely with chiefs and the Malvatumauri Council of Chiefs.
“Some of our traditional governance is being lost. Our government must recognise the importance of governance enshrined in our Constitution. It’s time to work with chiefs and the Malvatumauri,” Hon. Napat said.
The historic meeting will also coincide with the visit of Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Richard Marles, along with other Australian government officials.
“They are coming here it’s not easy to move mountains, but they have no choice. I have told them this must be a win-win situation; if they win, we must win too,” Hon. Napat stated.
