The semifinals of the VFF Men’s Champions League are officially set to kick off today, following the final Group A match earlier this week between Galaxy FC and M3 United FC at Freshwater Stadium in Port Vila.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw, which allowed Galaxy FC to top Group A with 7 points, edging out M3 United FC, who also finished with 7 points but fell behind on goal difference.
Galaxy’s better goal tally in the group stage secured them the top spot and a semifinal matchup against Group B runner-up, Police FC, at 1:00 PM today.
M3 United, as Group A runner-up, will face Group B leaders, Waterfall FC, in the second semifinal scheduled for 4:00 PM.
M3 United head coach Jerom Iata praised his team’s fighting spirit against the PVFA champions Galaxy FC:
“My boys have been preparing for three weeks. The planning we did really helped them. Galaxy is a strong team, and I’m proud of how we played.”
Iata expressed confidence that if his side advances, they are ready to face Galaxy FC again in the grand final this weekend.
Galaxy FC head coach Albert Riera also expressed pride in his team after they came back from a 2-0 deficit:
“I’m happy with the performance. I spoke with the players and told them I’m proud. We’ll keep working on our game and prepare for whoever we face next.”
Today’s semifinals will determine which two teams will progress to the grand final on Saturday, where the national title will be decided.
