Ni-Vanuatu Worker Wins Cook-Off Charity Challenge at Kings Farm in Australia

A farm in Australia’s Northern Territory known as Kings Farm recently hosted a cook-off competition involving Ni-Vanuatu workers and others from different countries, all employed at the farm.

The Kings Farm Cook-Off brought together six teams of participants who competed in a friendly cooking challenge. The aim of the event was not just to showcase culinary skills, but to raise funds for charitable organisations.

The cook-off attracted over 300 guests, each paying an entry fee to enjoy a wide selection of dishes, including chicken BBQ, pork ribs, and beef—prepared by the competing teams. All proceeds from the event will be donated to charities in need.

The competition was won by Charlie Waivui, a Ni-Vanuatu worker at Kings Farm, alongside the farm owner, who also took part in the contest. Charlie, who has been working on the farm for several years, told VBTC News that the initiative made a real difference.

“The event helped feed over 300 people, and the funds raised will go to charity. There were 16 teams that competed. My boss and I won, and we’re proud to have been part of something meaningful,” he said.

Charlie also revealed that plans are underway to bring the event to Port Vila next year.

“Next year, the same kind of activity will be held in Port Vila—bringing it home to Vanuatu,” he said.

Kings Farm says the Cook-Off will now become an annual event, promoting multicultural friendship, community giving, and culinary talent.
