Vanuatu’s national futsal team, the Gideons, have wrapped up their campaign at the OFC Men’s Futsal Cup with a loss in their final match.
The side went down 3–1 against New Zealand at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, Fiji, earlier this week.
Going into the match, both nations were expected to deliver a tough contest after strong performances in earlier rounds. Coach Tito Quai’s boys worked hard to push for an upset, but New Zealand proved too strong and secured the win.
The result leaves Vanuatu finishing fourth overall, just above Tuvalu, who placed last.
At the official closing, Solomon Islands were crowned champions after beating Tuvalu 7–0 in the final match. The overall standings saw Solomon Islands in first place, New Zealand second, host Fiji third, and Vanuatu in fourth.
