DoT Confirms Cruise Calls Proceeding as Scheduled

Department of Tourism (DoT) has clarified that cruise ship calls to Port Vila have not been cancelled, following recent public concerns and claims.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Department confirmed that all scheduled cruise visits remain in place and are consistent with the latest updates from cruise port agents and relevant authorities. It reminded the public that cruise schedules are always subject to change, which is standard across the global industry.

The Department noted a temporary reduction in cruise calls for 2025 as cruise lines continue to adjust their deployment in response to the 17 December 2024 earthquake and the temporary relocation of operations in Port Vila. The 2025–2026 cruise season began this month, with more calls expected through the end of the year. Visits for 2026 are confirmed, with operations expected to increase from January.

According to cruise schedules, the next cruise ship expected in Port Vila is the Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas on 24 November 2025.

A key infrastructure concern remains the damaged hillside above the main wharf, which must be stabilised before safe vehicle and passenger access can resume. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities is progressing this work.

Cruise tender operations continue at the temporary Seafront tender point. Despite challenges, the Department says significant progress has been made since cruise operations resumed in August 2025, and operational issues are being addressed as they arise.

The Department says public safety and quality visitor experiences remain its priorities and will provide updates as new developments occur.
