Freshwater School Principal Stresses Time Management as Key to Student Success

Freshwater Bilingual School Principal, Mr. Joses Seth, has underscored the importance of time management for students, stressing that how children use their 24 hours each day has a direct impact on their success in school and in life.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Seth explained that time is a gift that must be used wisely.

“Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day, but how you manage it reflects the life you will live. Effective use of time determines how well you perform and how successful you become,” he said.

He highlighted that education itself is structured around scheduling, with schools operating on strict timetables that teach students discipline and prioritisation.
“Education is a highly scheduled program. From the start of school at 7:30am to the time students return home, every activity is structured. This helps children learn how to use their time effectively,” Mr. Seth noted.

Teachers, he added, play a critical role as role models in instilling time management skills.

“When teachers arrive late, it sends the wrong message—that time is not important. Teachers must set the example by using their time wisely, arriving on time, and completing their work responsibly. That’s how students learn the value of time,” he explained.

Parents also have a key role in reinforcing these lessons at home. Mr. Seth encouraged parents to create schedules for their children after school hours to balance chores, homework, rest, and play.

“It’s important for parents to set clear expectations. For example, after arriving home, a child can first help with chores, then have time to play, followed by homework and study. Without guidance, children waste hours on phones or social media, which weakens their critical thinking,” he warned.

While acknowledging that mobile phones and technology have benefits, Mr. Seth stressed the need for moderation. “Phones can be useful for education, but without limits, children end up consuming meaningless content online. Parents must carefully supervise and schedule phone use to protect their children’s learning and wellbeing.”

He concluded by reminding both teachers and parents that effective time management is a shared responsibility.

“We all have the same amount of time. What matters is how we use it. When we waste time, it never comes back.”
