Vanuatu is using its participation in the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, to strengthen international partnerships in trade, tourism, and technology.
The six-month event, which opened on April 13 under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”, features more than 150 countries from around the globe.
Director of External Trade at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade, Mr Joe Pakoa Lui — who also serves as Vanuatu’s Commissioner to the Expo — says the country’s focus is on three key pillars: tourism, investment, and the promotion of Vanuatu-made products such as coffee, cocoa, oils, and handicrafts.
“We continue to emphasise the importance of Vanuatu’s participation in global platforms like the World Expo,” Mr Lui said. “It provides a valuable marketing opportunity to showcase what we have — from our products to our tourism services and investment potential — to Japan and the rest of the world.”
Mr Lui confirmed that one local coffee exporter has already secured a Japanese partner and shipped 100 kilograms of coffee beans within the first week of the Expo following successful product testing.
Vanuatu’s official National Day at the Expo is set for July 30, and will feature traditional dances, cultural performances, and an official address by the Minister of Trade.
As the Expo continues through to October, Vanuatu’s delegation is hopeful the global stage will lead to long-term economic opportunities and stronger global engagement for the country.
