An inspection has found more than 4,000 trays of eggs dumped in a container in Port Vila because they were not fit for consumption.
Officer-in-charge at the Biosecurity Office, Leisongi Manses, confirmed to VBTC News that the temperature of the container upon arrival was too high.
“During our inspection of the egg container imported by Low Price Company, all the paperwork was correct, but the problem was the temperature. The eggs arrived on the ship with a temperature that was too high. A temperature of around 0 degrees would have been okay, but the temperature rose, making the eggs go bad. About 214 cartons—around 4,000 trays of eggs—were destroyed because they were not safe for human consumption,” Manses said.
Mrs Manses stressed the need to work together with agency bringing in goods that they used the right temperature.
