More than 40 farmers from 11 area councils in Sanma Province are currently participating in a Vegetable Cultivation Techniques training at the Vanuatu Agriculture Research Technical Centre (VARTC) in Santo, led by Vanuatu’s Chinese partners.
The month-long training, which began on Monday, 18 August 2025, focuses on improving vegetable farming practices. Farmers are learning directly from technical experts from the Ministry of Commerce, China, and the Centre of International Cooperation Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, China.
According to VARTC, the training covers techniques such as vegetable planting, pest and disease control, value addition, soil fertility management, irrigation systems, and greenhouse operations. Participants will also visit various farms around Vanuatu to learn about different planting systems.
This is the third edition of the vegetable cultivation training in Vanuatu, following the first program in 2019 and the second in Port Vila in 2023.
