The captain of the MV Kafe Star has been suspended after the vessel struck Big Sista at the Sino Van jetty in Port Vila yesterday.

Acting Commissioner of the Maritime Safety Authority, Lloyd Fikiasi, told VBTC News that an investigation is now underway while MV kafe Star is detained with, Captain and engineer suspended.

Mr. Fikiasi said the MV Kafe Star collided with Big Sista, causing damage also to Vanuatu Ferry 3.

“Today we received a report of a collision at the domestic wharf at Sino Van involving MV Kafe Star and Big Sista. Big Sista did not move, but MV Kafe Star came in and collided with Big Sista and Vanuatu Ferry. We received a report that it is very serious. We have suspended the captain and engineer, and they are now under suspension while we complete the investigation to determine fault,” Acting Commissioner Lloyd Fikiasi said.
