Malekula’s Lakatoro Market Extension Project Kicks Off

The extension of Lakatoro Market on Malekula officially began this week, with a total project budget of over VT4 million. Of this, VT2 million comes from the French Government, while VT1.9 million is funded by the Malampa Provincial Government. The contract for the three-month project has been awarded to MNCS.

Malampa Provincial Secretary General, Germain Ludvaune, explained that the project was initially planned for earlier this year but faced delays due to unforeseen circumstances. “We want to extend this project to accommodate their sales, and it will also help contribute to their livelihood, especially in their earnings,” he said.

His Excellency, President of Malampa Province, Jeppy Berry, added, “work will begin by October 10, Minister will come over and do the launching, contract will last around 18 December, so within 25 December, French Embassy should come around and do the opening and the councils.”

The project is expected to be completed by 18 December, with a formal opening ceremony involving the French Embassy and local councils scheduled around 25 December.
