The Luganville Football Association (LFA) Champions League has not proceeded since May after a major sponsor pulled out, LFA President Sakias Boe has confirmed.

Speaking to the media this week, Mr. Boe explained that the withdrawal was due to issues between the sponsor and the association, leaving the LFA without the funds to run the competition or provide prizes for winning clubs.

“We haven’t started our championship yet because of a lack of prizes. Previously, we always had prizes, but this time we didn’t. We had a four-year sponsorship agreement, but in its last term something went wrong, and the sponsor pulled out.”

To resolve the issue, LFA has established a finance committee to look for new sponsors and other ways to secure funding for football in Luganville.

Mr. Boe also noted that club compliance with LFA rules remains a challenge.

“If we strictly follow the rules, only a few clubs will play; some clubs will not participate.”

After nearly four months of inactivity at Luganville Soccer City Stadium, the winning clubs from the 2024–2025 Champions League finally received their prize money yesterday.

The LFA also confirmed that a full financial report has been completed and will be presented at next month’s congress. The finance committee will review the report this Thursday to help plan the association’s future.

Mr. Boe offered his apology to clubs and the public:

“I apologize to the public. As president, the competition did not run as expected, but now we are addressing finance, the tournament, and discipline.”

With the year nearing its end, LFA confirmed there will be no new season in 2025, with planning for the next competition set to begin in 2026.
