Common Arrests: Drunkness – Northern Police Operation

“The common reasons for arrests were drunkness, disturbances, arguments between communities, and minor injuries. We had to remove some individuals from communities to prevent issues from escalating,” Acting Northern Commander David Mathias said.

Following the Police Commissioner’s launch of the operation, Northern Command officers worked alongside the Vanuatu Mobile Force and Police Maritime Wing, conducting extensive patrols and law enforcement in communities, business areas, and public spaces across Sanma Province.

Acting Northern Commander David Mathias confirmed to VBTC News that all arrests were for minor offenses, with no reports of serious crimes, accidents, or deaths.

Police in the Northern Command arrested 68 people for minor offenses during a special “Noel” operation in December last year.

Mr. Mathias also praised the work of community safety teams, chiefs, and local leaders who continue to collaborate closely with police to maintain peace in Sanma Province.
