CAA Warns Public: Laser Strikes on Aircraft Are Illegal and Dangerous

The Civil Aviation Authority is urging the public not to point torches or laser lights at aircraft flying at night.

In a statement issued by the Civil Aviation Authority, the office says this behaviour can disrupt a pilot’s vision, cause confusion, and put the lives of passengers, crew, and the public at serious risk.

Just last month, Unity Airlines reported a strong torch or green laser light coming from the Eratap–Erakor area, which was aimed directly at one of its aircraft. The light struck the pilot’s face and temporarily affected his ability to see clearly.

The Civil Aviation Authority stresses that using laser lights or strong torches to target aircraft is against the law, and anyone involved can face penalties.
