Vanuatu Makes Its Debut at ITTF-Oceania Under-12 Hoops Week

Vanuatu is set to make its debut at the ITTF-Oceania Under-12 Hoops Week, kicking off next week in New Caledonia. This will be the first time Vanuatu has participated in this annual program, marking an important milestone for the country’s table tennis development.

Representing Vanuatu in the kids’ competition is Akaiah Aris Kaltoi, the young son of Anolyn Lulu, a respected table tennis veteran. Anolyn, who is also Akaiah’s mother, expressed excitement about seeing more young players step up after the success of senior athletes.

“This event happens every year, but until now, Vanuatu has never sent a player to participate. This is the first time we are sending an under-12 player to join the competition,” said Anolyn Lulu.

The event includes a training camp followed by matches where participants from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, and Tahiti will compete against each other. Over five countries are expected to take part in this exciting opportunity.

Anolyn emphasized the importance of starting player development at a young age to ensure the future of table tennis in Vanuatu. “Senior players will eventually step down, but it’s encouraging to see young ones coming up and ready to continue the legacy of table tennis in our country.”
