Vanuatu Launches First-Ever National Skills Competition

Vanuatu has launched a new national platform to showcase the skills and talents of young people and trades workers across the country.

The Vanuatu National Skills Competition will run from 15–17 October 2025 under the theme “Celebrate Skills, Inspiring Excellence.”

Minister of Education and Training, Hon. Simil Johnson, said the competition is designed to encourage and inspire young people across the country to demonstrate their abilities and raise standards in different trades and professions.

“This competition will help young people to grow, be inspired, and showcase their skills to set standards across the country,” Hon. Johnson said.

The Minister highlighted that the event will celebrate a wide range of skills, including cooking, mechanics, engineering, and more.

“This is the first skills competition in the country, and as Minister, I am calling on all young people in Vanuatu to take part at VIT,” he added.

One of the students attending the launch, Emisa Kalmes, expressed her excitement about participating.

“I do coffee, and we prepare three types of coffee. The judges taste and score us, and whoever gets 100 comes first. I am looking forward to being part of the competition,” she said.

The launch of the Vanuatu National Skills Competition was hosted by the Ministry of Education and Training at the Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT) in Port Vila.
