The Vanuatu Boxing Federation has officially unveiled a new boxing ring valued at 800,000 vatu.
While this marks a major investment for the federation, officials say they still do not have a proper venue allocated to run regular training sessions.
This year is shaping up to be a busy one for sports, with competitions already underway since January alongside other sports federations. However, the boxing team is currently using a small hall to conduct its training sessions.
Several major competitions are coming up, including preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where boxing is expected to have an athlete representing Team Vanuatu.
Once the federation secures its own venue, it plans to conduct full-time training and begin long-term preparations towards the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti.
The federation is also calling for more young girls to register and take up boxing, as many emerging opportunities in the sport are now focused on female athletes.
Across the Pacific, strong female boxers are also emerging from Papua New Guinea.
