Shefa Province Sees Spike in Whooping Cough, Flu and Waterborne Diseases.

Shefa province is facing a concerning surge in illnesses this month.

The Shefa Provincial Health Office has reported an increase across the province between 6 and 12 October.

Health authorities have identified the week-long period with 47 cases of whooping cough- 2 patients admitted and 45 currently under treatment. 25 cases of flu, 14 cases of waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea, 13 cases of skin infections, and 3 cases of conjunctivitis.

Other cases identified include a case of fish poisoning, chickenpox, and yaws.

Health officials say the rise is mainly caused by transmission through air, water, and food, urging the public to take extra precautions.

They are advising everyone to wash hands regularly with soap and clean water, cover mouth and nose when sneezing, and visit the nearest health facility if showing symptoms of illness.

Parents are also being reminded to take children to the clinic immediately if they show signs of fever, skin rashes, or diarrhoea, as early treatment can help prevent complications.
