Over 200 Vehicles Seized in Port Vila for Licensing and Paperwork Violations

Authorities in Port Vila have seized over 200 vehicles in an ongoing joint operation targeting non-compliant transport operators.

The operation, which began over the weekend, is being led by Police in collaboration with the Public Land Transport Authority (PLTA) and other agencies. As of yesterday, 145 trucks had been impounded due to irregular or incomplete documentation.

According to Regional Tabi, Chief Executive Officer of the PLTA, both private and public transport vehicles are among those held.

“Among the 145 vehicles are private and public trucks that do not meet the legal requirements to operate,” said Mr. Tabi.

Authorities are continuing the operation this week, and more trucks are expected to be inspected and possibly seized.

    Compliance Urged:

Police are urging vehicle owners whose papers are not in order to visit the appropriate authorities and settle their outstanding fees and licensing requirements immediately.

    Next Steps:

Mr. Tabi confirmed that once the operation concludes, PLTA will release the final tally of all vehicles seized and the total amount collected in fines over the two-day enforcement effort.

The operation highlights the government’s commitment to road safety and regulatory compliance. Authorities are warning all transport operators to ensure their documents are current to avoid further penalties.
