Over 200 Childhood Illness Cases Reported in Torba in 2023

Health data shows that in 2023, Torba Province recorded more than 200 cases of illnesses in children under 5 years old through the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) program.

National IMCI Coordinator, Blaise Resen, shared this update during a recent training for nurses in Torba. The training brought together eight nurses from different health centres to learn how to better care for children under 5.

“This public health program focuses on children under 5 years old. It helps nurses treat and prevent sicknesses such as severe cough, diarrhoea, measles, malaria, and malnutrition,” Resen said.

In 2023, Torba recorded 189 cases of diarrhoea, 132 cases of malnutrition, and around 140 cases of fever or malaria. Resen said the training also helps parents receive correct advice on caring for young children at home, especially in remote areas.

At the end of the training, all participants received certificates for completing the course.
