Road resurfacing work using new coal tar (asphalt) is now underway in Luganville town this week.
The contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), has already begun removing old tar from the town’s main road to prepare for the new asphalt layer.
The project falls under the Luganville Urban Road Development Project and costs over 1 billion vatu, fully funded by the Government of Vanuatu.
According to a report from the Luganville Traffic Headquarters, the roadworks will only take place at night to avoid disturbing daytime traffic through the main part of town.
The upgraded road will stretch from Niscol Wharf to John Lum Store, and similar works will continue towards Sarakata Bridge.
The entire project is expected to be completed before 2026, by next year.
