New Schools, Teacher Recruitment, and Vocational Training Boost for Torba

Vice President of the Torba Provincial Government Council, Hosea Tari Wosobrig, has highlighted key education achievements across Torba Province during his official speech at the Torba Day celebrations last week.

Councillor Wosobrig said the Ministry of Education, through the Torba Education Office, is currently working to register new schools and recruit more teachers across all education levels , from early childhood to secondary.

“The education office of Torba is continuing to recruit teachers from ECC to secondary. There are new school registrations, a new backup school at Lower Torres, and plans to start a science stream at BLMS next year. That’s a big achievement. We’ll also see the reopening of Santa Maria Secondary School with two Year 11 francophone classes,” he said.

He also addressed the ongoing teachers’ strike, urging everyone to work together with the Torba Education Office to find solutions and ensure that learning continues.

The Provincial Government is also encouraging more Torba students to join vocational training centers now established across the province to gain practical life skills.

“Through the programs already in place, Motalava has started providing opportunities for Year 10 students to take vocational options,” Wosobrig explained.

Torba Province now has several active vocational training centers, including Fisher Yang Vocational Center, Ituani Vocational Center, Vitimboso Vocational Center, and Losolava Vocational Center , all aimed at equipping school leavers with basic training and career skills for a brighter future.
