New Library Opens at Telhei School, Benefiting Over 280 Students

Over 280 students of Telhei School, both primary and secondary, will greatly benefit from their new library, which was officially opened recently.

The opening of the new library marks a new milestone achievement as the first development of the new year within Telhei School, both primary and secondary.

The official opening was witnessed by representatives from the Vanuatu Library Association, chiefs, school principals, teachers, and members of the community.

In an interview with the Vice Principal of Telhei Primary School, Terry Malau said Telhei School, both primary and secondary, partnered with the Vanuatu Library Association to make the vision a reality.

“The school is partnered with Library Project Vanuatu. Funding comes from Australia that funded reading books around Vanuatu, so we are fortunate to receive those.”

He also said that Telhei School funded the building while the Vanuatu Library Association provided the reading books.

“The school is partnered to prepare the building since last year until the end of the year, so this new year the coordination of this project came to do the setting up of the library.”

The Vanuatu Library Association team said the library is there to help ECCE students, primary level, secondary level students to read, as well as children from the surrounding community.

The reading books are available at different levels.

“The levels start from beginner to advanced readers.”

The total cost of the building is around one million vatu.
