MoET Boosts Partner Coordination for Better Learning Outcomes

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has reinforced partnership coordination across the education sector as part of its effort to lift learning outcomes for students nationwide.

From a press release it states that the Director General Cherol Ala Ianna led a Steering Committee meeting this week with key development partners, including Australia, New Zealand, Save the Children, and the Global Partnership for Education. The meeting allowed partners to share updates, outline achievements, and highlight ongoing challenges affecting the sector.

DG Ala acknowledged the consistent support from all partners, noting that their collaboration continues to be central to the Ministry’s progress. Despite challenges throughout 2025, MoET has recorded significant improvements, particularly through the rollout of a new approach focused on strengthening foundational learning from kindergarten to Year 3.

The initiative targets literacy and numeracy by placing learning at the centre of school practice. Forty focus primary schools across Vanuatu’s six provinces are currently receiving dedicated support from provincial education teams and eight Provincial Education Coaches. These coaches work closely with teachers and principals to improve classroom delivery and professional practice.

Principals in the focus schools are now leading fortnightly pedagogy and learning meetings, giving teachers regular opportunities to assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies to student needs.

Partners are also shifting to a coaching-based professional development model, providing teachers with ongoing, practical support rather than one-off training sessions. This approach is designed to create long-term, sustainable improvements in classroom teaching.

DG Ala emphasized that strong coordination between MoET and its partners ensures alignment with national education priorities, promotes more cost-effective planning, and strengthens efforts to build a comprehensive and inclusive education system.

MoET will continue leading these coordination meetings to keep the sector on track to achieve Vanuatu’s education goals by 2030.
