Labour Force Survey Reaches Over 80% of Targeted Households

More than 80% of the 4,000 selected households in the Labour Force Survey sample have been successfully interviewed, according to the Vanuatu Bureau of Statistics.

The survey, which began on 6 June, aims to gather updated information on employment, unemployment, and economic activity across the country. It is scheduled to conclude next week.

Chief Statistician Mr. Calo Andy KAP said that out of the total sample size of 4,000 households, over 3,000 have already been surveyed, which represents 84% coverage.

“This Labour Force Survey is designed using a scientific sampling method, which means not every household is surveyed—only selected ones across the country,” he explained. “The completion rate currently sits at 84%, and we’re aiming to reach 100% by the end of the survey period.”

Mr. KAP acknowledged some challenges along the way, noting that a small number of households have declined to participate. “While we want full coverage, our Constitution protects the freedom of choice and expression, so we respect the rights of those who refuse.”
