The government has strongly urged teachers to refrain from using students as tools in the ongoing dispute between educators and authorities.
This statement follows a viral protest circulating on social media last week, showing teachers in Malekula, Malampa Province, organizing a “Stand-Up Protest” with students. The demonstration aimed to pressure the government to settle teachers’ outstanding claims so they could resume classroom duties.
In an interview with VBTC News, Government Public Relations Officer (PRO) Kiery Mannaseh condemned the involvement of students, calling it unacceptable.
“Students are innocent in this matter—they should never be dragged into it. Teachers have crossed a line,” Mannaseh stated.
He reiterated that the government is actively addressing teachers’ claims. Prime Minister Jotham Napat confirmed the formation of a task force to negotiate a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with teachers, ensuring a structured resolution process.
