A person has lost his life following a road accident at Melsisi, Central Pentecost earlier today.

The Community Liaison Officer for South Pentecost, Mr. Robinson Tema, confirmed the incident to VBTC News.

According to Mr. Tema, the accident occurred when a privately owned truck—used for road construction work on Pentecost—was heading toward Loltong in North Pentecost and lost control while coming down a hill in Melsisi. The vehicle was reportedly overloaded.

The victim, the late Peter Watas, died at Ranmawot Clinic in South Pentecost after losing a large amount of blood. He was originally from Palemsi, South Pentecost, and believed to be in his 30s.

Melsisi Health Centre reported that two other individuals were taken to Ranmawot Clinic—one was confirmed dead on arrival, and the other sustained minor injuries.

The driver and another passenger were treated for minor injuries, according to the health center.

VBTC News has attempted to contact local police for further comment but was unable to reach them at this time.
