A man from Tanna has been referred to Port Vila after developing severe complications from dengue fever, with bleeding reported from his nose, mouth and ears.
Tafea Public Health Manager Markson Tabi confirmed the case to VBTC News, saying three patients were hospitalised between October 8 and October 14, 2026, with one requiring referral to Port Vila for further treatment.
“During this period, from October 8 to October 14, we had three cases that were hospitalised and one case referred with complications of dengue, with bleeding from the nose, mouth and ears. The patient had to be referred to Port Vila, while the other three are still receiving medical treatment.
“So far, there are 113 confirmed cases of dengue as of Wednesday this week, and transmission is still continuing,” Mr Tabi said.
“There are valuable test kits available, and no deaths have been recorded from this outbreak. However, transmission is continuing every day.” Mr Tabi said.
However, he warned that transmission was continuing daily and called on the public to work together to stop the spread of the disease.
