Preparations are underway for the final walkathon led by Prime Minister Jotham Napat in Vanuatu’s fight against cancer, scheduled for this Saturday.
The initiative began in early April this year when the Ikhana Kansa Foundation started offering free cancer screening for girls and women at Saralana Park.
The walkathon series has covered various parts of Efate, with previous routes including Onesua to Panpang, Pangpang to Dry Creek, and Dry Creek to Rentapau. This Saturday will mark the last leg of the campaign.
“Number 3 was at Onesua till Banpang, then Pangpang till Dry Creek, and then Dry Creek till Rentapau. Now this Saturday is the last one,” Prime Minister Napat said.
Max Albert, founder and coordinator of the Ikhana Kansa Foundation, spoke about the final program:
“Those who give money to this project — this is how the funds will reach the cause. We ask the public to come and support. Anyone can join.”
Cancer remains a major health concern in Vanuatu, particularly breast cancer and cervical cancer, affecting both women and girls.
The final walkathon will start at Rentapau at 1:30 pm and finish at Korman by 4:00 pm, after which the total funds raised for the fight against cancer will be announced.
