The Vanuatu Boxing Federation is reminding local clubs and event organisers to follow strict safety rules if they plan to host boxing knockouts during this year’s Independence celebration.
Secretary General Sawia Steven Noel says boxing is a high-risk combat sport, and any competition must involve qualified personnel and proper planning to protect athletes.
“Boxing is a serious sport. It’s a combat discipline, and we must address the safety of boxers before we organise any tournament,” Noel said.
He explained that so far this year, the Federation has not officially registered any clubs or leagues, but with more tournaments expected in the coming weeks, they are now open to working with both Port Vila-based clubs and those in the provinces.
“We want everyone to know—if you’re interested in organising a boxing tournament, please don’t be afraid to approach us. We can guide and help you run it properly.”
The Federation is now urging clubs to register under the national body so they can operate under official rules, and ensure all events are safe, fair, and recognised.
