Three more guilty in Land Dispute and Witchcraft case assault and death

Three men have been found guilty in connection to the death of a man and the assault of another relating to a land dispute and witchcraft accusations.

The incident happened during a nakamal meeting on Tanna in 2022.

Two other men had previously pleaded guilty to one count each of Intentional Homicide  and Intentional assault causing permanent injuries.

On Wednesday this week, the Supreme Court found 2 of the three men guilty for Inciting Intentional Homicide and one for Intentional Homicide and Intentional assault causing permanent injuries.

The case related to a meeting attended by around 800 people, reportedly called to discuss land dispute.

The court heard from witnesses that tensions escalated during the meeting after one party accused a man for causing the death of a number of their relatives using witchcraft.

The situation led to a violent confrontation, resulting in the death of one man and permanent injury to another.

The Supreme Court will sit again on July 28 to deliver sentencing for those found guilty.
