Ongoing disputes between teachers and the Government have been identified as a key reason behind the sudden reshuffle of two senior officials the Director General of Education and the Director General of Justice.
A gazetted order on 11 September confirmed the immediate transfer of DG Cherol Ala from the Ministry of Justice to replace DG Bergman Iati at the Ministry of Education.
Speaking to VBTC News , Prime Minister Jotham Napat said the reshuffle was necessary because the Ministry of Education had suffered from weak leadership and poor performance under its former Director General.
“It is one of the outstanding issues. There is no leadership, there is not enough performance. If we see changes in the teachers, maybe we will see anyone that goes inside will be able to address the issues that are present,” Napat said.
The Prime Minister confirmed the Government will closely assess the performance of the new Education DG as the ministry works to address ongoing disputes with teachers.
