The National University of Vanuatu (NUV) has reaffirmed its leadership in Pacific education and international cooperation following its active role at the Sino-Pacific Symposium on Higher Education, Innovation and Development, held from 23–24 June 2025 at the National University of Samoa.

NUV’s Vice Chancellor Jean-Pierre Nirua represented the university at the regional event, which brought together academic leaders, government officials, and development partners to tackle shared challenges in higher education and climate resilience.

A key milestone from NUV’s participation was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Liaocheng University of China. The agreement focuses on strengthening academic collaboration in research, climate change, and language and cultural exchanges — marking a new chapter in NUV’s international engagement.

“I was delighted to take part in this important symposium and to sign the MoU with Liaocheng University,” said Vice Chancellor Nirua.
“Strengthening partnerships in the Pacific and beyond is vital for advancing research, innovation, and education that align with our shared priorities – especially climate resilience and cultural preservation.”

The event opened in the presence of the Prime Minister of Samoa, underscoring its national and regional significance. The forum also facilitated high-level dialogue between Pacific national universities including Samoa, Tonga, and the University of Papua New Guinea.

NUV continues to build on its role as a regional driver of education, innovation, and sustainable development, with a vision grounded in the Vanuatu People’s Plan, Education and Training Sector Strategy, and the National Human Resource Development Plan 2020–2030.
