A man from Whitesands, Tanna Island, believed to be around 50 years old, was seriously injured last weekend after falling from a cherry picker at a farm, Bammes Orchard in Manjimup in Western Australia (WA).
A spokesperson for the group, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the details to VBTC News. The spokesperson said the man, who also wishes to remain anonymous, suffered a broken hip and six broken ribs but successfully underwent surgery yesterday and is recovering slowly. Another procedure is expected next month.
The spokesperson added that the man slipped while clearing the machine, which was on a slippery surface.
Emergency crews, including local firefighters and paramedics, responded around 9am. The man was freed from the machinery by DFES crews and airlifted to Bunbury Regional Hospital by the RAC Rescue Helicopter around 11am.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the hospital bills are being looked after by the farmer.
VBTC News attempted to get a comment from the Labour Department, but this was not possible.
