A tragic incident on Ambae Island last Friday resulted in the death of an individual after his brother struck him on the head with a chair. Police on Saratamata confirmed to VBTC News that they have arrested the suspect and charged him with intentional assault.

The suspect was held in a holding cell until Saturday and has since been transported to RVS Mataweli in Santo, where he will appear in court in Luganville.

VBTC News has learned that the incident was believed to have occurred under the influence of alcohol.

Under the Penal Code Act Cap 135, intentional assault resulting in death carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
