Gov’t Provides Financial Assistance to Restore ATR & Twin Otter Planes

The government has provided approximately VT300 million to pay for engines for Air Vanuatu’s ATR and Twin Otter planes.

Air Vanuatu’s Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Laloyer, confirmed this support to VBTC News.

With this support, Air Vanuatu has already paid for another engine in Canada to replace the ATR plane engine that failed last month.

CEO Laloyer said work is now underway to bring the engine to Vanuatu so engineers can install it in the plane.

Regarding a Twin Otter plane that is also out of service, Laloyer said work is ongoing to pay for a replacement engine as well.

At the moment, only two Twin Otter planes are available to provide Air Vanuatu’s domestic services.

CEO Laloyer thanked the government for the financial support and assured that the ATR and Twin Otter planes currently out of service are expected to be back in operation before the end of the year.
