According to a media release by the Government of Vanuatu, the office strongly condemns the malicious use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to impersonate the Minister for Finance and circulate fake deals aimed at deceiving the public.

Citizens are urged to be vigilant and verify information through official channels before engaging with any offers or statements claiming to be from government officials.

The Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Johnny Koanapo RASOU , who is also Deputy Prime Minister, expressed disgust at AI-generated videos bearing his name and likeness, calling such actions unacceptable and a threat to national security and public trust.

The Government will not tolerate the use of technology for fraud and will take all necessary measures to identify and prosecute those responsible.

The public is assured that no government official will ever request personal or financial information through unofficial channels, and citizens are advised not to engage with such scams.

Authorities will continue working to protect citizens from cyber threats and to maintain the integrity of government communications.
