Government Thanks Sponsors and Communities for Making National Arts Festival a Success

Minister of Justice, Youth and Community Services, Job Andy, speaking on behalf of the Government of Vanuatu, has thanked sponsors and communities for their strong support in making the 5th National Arts Festival on Tanna a success.

Held in August, the festival brought together over 700 participants from across the country to celebrate custom dances, songs, storytelling, and traditional practices. Minister Andy said the support from sponsors, combined with the use of technology, ensured that the event reached beyond Tanna, allowing citizens in other provinces and overseas to witness the performances.

“The festival’s theme, ‘Unveiling Custom Governance’, gave chiefs and communities the chance to reflect on how traditional practices can help address today’s challenges,” he said. He added that custom remains an important guide for young people as the nation faces issues such as climate change.

The Minister highlighted that the event not only promoted unity and cultural pride but also brought significant economic benefits to Tafea Province. Local markets, handicraft vendors, fishermen, guesthouses, transport operators, and shops all recorded a boost in activity during the festival period.
