Safety Comes First as Vanuatu Aquatics Federation Hosts Free Open-Water Swimming Camp
Safety comes first when families choose to go swimming or have picnics in the sea.
This is the main focus behind a three-day swimming camp that the Vanuatu Aquatics Federation will host next week, starting on Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th, and Wednesday 14th January 2026 at Eton and Black Sands.
Following several incidents that occurred during the festive season, the federation decided to run the free three-day camp, targeting children from eight years old to adults. The aim is to teach basic open-water swimming rules and survival skills for the sea and rivers.
The federation has made a call to the two communities that will be using the sea areas next week, encouraging them to send their children along with their parents to take part in the camp. The sessions will run for about four hours each day.
Organizers say the camp is a valuable opportunity for participants to learn essential techniques to stay safe and survive in the water, especially in situations where there is a risk of drowning.
