Supreme Court has released a 67-year-old grandfather who was found guilty of committing an indecent act on his 2-year-old granddaughter.

The man was sentenced to 13 months in prison after pleading guilty to one charge of indecency with a child. The court heard that in 2024, he exposed his private parts to the child.

However, the man was released because he had already served over 13 months in custody while waiting for his case to go through court.

Because he is no longer under sentence, Justice Maree MacKenzie stated that she could not issue a supervision or restriction order on where he should live.

Still, the judge recommended that, in the interest of safety and fairness, the man should relocate and live elsewhere.
