Authorities Set 1 a.m. Curfew for New Year 2026 Celebrations

Authorities have announced that celebrations to welcome the New Year 2026 must end by 1:00 a.m. on the morning of 1 January.

Police Force Sergeant Marie Natuman told VBTC News:

“New Year noise should start at 12am to 1am. After 1am, places should be quiet. No exceptions—only 12 am to 1am.”

VBTC News understands that a music concert will take place at the Waterfall area in Port Vila tonight to mark the countdown to welcome the New Year.

It is also clear that during such times, young people often celebrate with activities and behavior that can disturb communities.

Because of this, Sergeant Marie highlighted some actions that are not allowed under the law.

“It is against the law to make noise on another person’s property. Sometimes when youths are very excited, rubbish is thrown around the streets. We do not encourage this. We want people to celebrate with a respectful attitude, in a good environment, and make sure noise levels follow the time limits given.”

VBTC also understands that the music concert at Korman Cricket Field has been moved to Saturday, 3 January.

The organizing committee has assured the public of tight security, and fireworks will also be part of the New Year celebrations.
