The Court of Appeal has today heard the case filed by the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), appealing the Supreme Court’s ruling on the legality of the nationwide teachers’ strike.
On May 30 this year, the Supreme Court ruled that the strike organized by the Vanuatu Teachers Union (VTU) was lawful and in line with the law.
However, the TSC, along with the Government through the Ministry of Education, lodged an appeal against that decision. The Ministry of Education has since withdrawn as a party to the case.
During yesterday’s hearing, submissions were presented by TSC’s lawyer Kent Tari and VTU’s lawyer Andrew Bal.
The Appeal Court is expected to sit again on August 14 to deliver its judgment on the matter.
