Airport services are continuing as normal and on schedule, as police investigate the theft that occurred this week in Port Vila.
Chief Executive Officer of Airports Vanuatu Limited, Jason Rakau said security guards were on duty when the theft took place, and that it happened very quickly.
“There are always security throughout our terminals, passengers and international cargo. as we can see it is a planned out robbery in terms of how fast and how it happened.”
Mr Rakau said there is also a new surveillance system that the airport is using.
“Airports Vanuatu also have CCTV cameras around our areas, this year we installed a new system that the coverage is much bigger, and we are continuing to improve depending on our resources, what we have is to provide eyewitnesses and provide to the authorities responsible.”
Investigations are continuing, and Mr Rakau told VBTC News that the movement of people to the islands and overseas is continuing.
“with this incident there has not been any disruptions in the flights whatsoever and so everything is operating as normal.”
The Government also said it will review security rules and systems at major public places, such as wharves and airports, to strengthen security.
It assured the public that the security of citizens and visitors remains a top priority, and that it will take steps to ensure such incidents do not happen again.
