Police have confirmed that the driver of a Hydro Project bus involved in an accident on Monday morning will face two charges –reckless driving and failure to give way.
Traffic Commander for the North, Edward Kalora, told VBTC News that under Section 4 of the Road Traffic Act, any vehicle approaching a junction without road signs must give way to traffic coming from the right.
“Yes, the law clearly states that drivers must give way to the right, following Section 4 of the Road Traffic Act,” Commander Kalora said.
He explained that the Hydro Project bus failed to comply with this rule, leading police to lay the charges.
“It is reckless driving and also a breach of Section 4 priority rules,” he added.
Commander Kalora stressed that while the Public Works Department (PWD) is responsible for installing road signs, drivers must still apply road safety knowledge and respect the law.
“This accident happened because there were no road signs, but it is common sense to always give way to the driver on your right,” he said.
The accident, which involved a Hydro Project bus and a Correctional Services bus, occurred yesterday morning. Police confirmed there were no serious injuries.
