Over 20 young players meet weekly to learn beach volleyball skills as part of a larger effort to promote health, discipline, and sportsmanship.
The program, organised by Mila Pata sees more than 20 children every Friday at the beach volleyball court, Stade area from 1:30PM to 3:30PM to learn the sport as part of an initiative to teach discipline and basic volleyball skills.
Mila Pata, who oversees the program and works with young coaches said that the sessions are part of an effort to nurture the next generation of Vanuatu beach volleyball players.
In addition to teaching sportsmanship, Pata noted that the program emphasises healthy eating habits, given the rise in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Vanuatu.
The sport has gained popularity in the country, with Vanuatu’s flag often represented at regional and international tournaments.
The Vanuatu Beach Volleyball Association invites all interested children, both those attending school and those who are not to come to Stade area each Friday. Coaches will be available to register the children’s names so they can participate and enjoy the sport.
