A dramatic hit-and-run incident unfolded at Tropical Market around 9 a.m. this morning, leaving two trucks damaged and a fuel pump knocked out.

Witnesses told VBTC they believe the driver was speeding under the influence of alcohol when the vehicle hit into the trucks before striking the pump.

The suspect was taken into custody and is now being questioned at the Police Station.

Municipal officers have since confirmed that the driver is believed to be a police officer who had just received a promotion the previous day.

Authorities say investigations are continuing.
