National Cyber Security Strategy to address cyber issues

Vanuatu’s Computer Emergency Response Team calls on people to work together with the Government to address cyber security issues in Vanuatu.

The Deputy Chief Information Officer for the Computer Emergency Response Team, John Jack, says the Government could not address these issues alone.

He says a National Cyber Security Strategy is a Government’s plan to try to set up some priority actions to control the use of the internet in Vanuatu.

Mr Jack says the first awareness session about the plan has kicked off on the island of Santo.

He says the awareness is to make the public aware of the Government’s plan to protect men and women and youth groups in Vanuatu surfing the internet.

“The plan comes in to help the people who are affected by cyber issues,” Mr Jack said.

“The National Cyber Security Strategy is a long process but it needs the cooperation of everyone in the community.

“The National Cyber Security plan has many roles. There are six priority areas in this plan that are to address cyber issues. And we hope that after its awareness campaign, we can finally address these issues.”

Mr John says during the awareness campaign, community leaders and people shared ideas with the team as well as Government bodies that showed that there is an urgent need to finalise the National Cyber Security Plan and make it work.

The first cyber security awareness sessions kicked off in Sanma Province this week.
