Dressed in a white shirt and brown skirt, Year 13 student Lilly Kelep arrived at USP’s Emalus Campus alongside her classmates and teacher, joining other students moving from booth to booth during the 2026 USP Open Day.
But for Lilly, the day was not simply about walking around a university campus.
She came with a question about her future.
As a Year 13 student at Lycée Lab, Lilly is now thinking about what comes after secondary school — and which subjects she should take to continue her studies.
That was one of the reasons she made the trip to USP Open Day.
Speaking to VBTC News, Lilly said she wanted to find out more about the subjects available and understand what she could study as she prepares for the next stage of her education.
Yet behind that search for information is another issue that some students from French-medium schools may think about when considering USP — language.
Lilly said students sometimes see Lycée as a French school and USP as an English-speaking university, which can create the impression that making the transition from French to English could be difficult.
But Lilly does not see the language difference as a reason to hold back.
She said being a French-speaking student should not prevent students from learning English and studying in an English-speaking environment.
For her, learning and continuing education in English is something that can be done.
And as she explored the Open Day, Lilly was also thinking beyond the immediate questions of subjects and language.
She was considering whether USP could become part of her own educational journey.
When asked if she would like to continue her studies at USP one day, her response was immediate:
“Yes, definitely.”
Her message to other young students is equally straightforward: come and see for yourself.
Lilly encouraged students to attend USP Open Day, visit the different booths and take part in the activities available. She said the experience gives young people an opportunity to learn more about the programmes and opportunities they may not know about.
For students standing at the edge of their next chapter, an Open Day can be more than a campus visit.
It can be a place to ask questions, challenge assumptions and begin imagining what comes next.
For Lilly Kelep, that next step may be at USP.
