Ten participants have successfully completed a three-stage bookkeeping training programme focused on strengthening small business management skills.
The training, delivered by AJ Consultant, concluded last week and aimed to equip small business owners with practical financial knowledge to help their businesses grow and become more sustainable.
Manager of AJ Consultant, Jimmy Alick, said the main purpose of the training is to empower Ni-Vanuatu entrepreneurs to build and manage successful businesses.
He said in today’s competitive environment, it is important for local business owners to strengthen their mindset and financial management skills to grow the economy and increase their contribution to government revenue.
Alick explained that once a business earns above VT4 million, it begins contributing directly to government revenue through taxes and licensing. However, he stressed that beyond registration and licensing, business owners need the knowledge to properly manage pricing, monitor cash flow, and determine whether their business is making a profit or loss.
Training Officer Nicole Fred said the programme focused on helping participants understand the “heart” of a business — money management.
She said topics covered included separating personal and business finances, household budgeting, tracking expenses, understanding income, and evaluating whether a business is profitable.
According to Fred, poor money management is one of the main reasons small businesses struggle to grow, and the training was designed to address that gap.
One of the participants, Regianna Iakula, who works with the Vanuatu National Youth Council, said the training will help her expand a youth-focused project she is currently managing.
She said the knowledge gained will assist her in managing team finances, saving funds, and potentially expanding the business beyond Port Vila to other communities.
At the end of the programme, AJ Consultant presented certificates to all participants and encouraged them to apply what they learned to strengthen their businesses and support economic growth within their communities.
