July 24 Confirmed as Public Holiday

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prime Minister’s Office, Kierry Manassah, confirmed this to VBTC News following confusion about the recent changes made by Parliament.

Mr Manassah explained that only provincial days and public holidays that fall on weekends are affected by the amendments.

“Parliament decided that any public holiday that falls on a weekend will no longer be carried forward to Monday. This is to help reduce the number of holidays and avoid time lost that could be used for work especially in the public service and private sector. So this coming July 24, which is Children’s Day, will remain the same as the other national public holidays.” mR MANASSAH EXPLAINED

He confirmed that Children’s Day on July 24 remains an official public holiday and will be observed as normal across the country.

The government also took to social media to clear up the confusion, stating:

“It would appear there are still some confusions about the recent changes to the Public Holidays Act. Please note that the recent amendments passed by Parliament only apply to provincial holidays and those that fall on weekends. All other public holidays remain as they are.
Hence, 24th July – Children’s Day – remains a national holiday in Vanuatu

The Ministry is encouraging the public to take note and plan ahead for the upcoming national celebration.
